What you will have to do is to bring your palms together first. Afterward, lift your hands above your head. Stay in this position for 8 to 16 seconds. Then, follow through with your bottom by squatting down, reaching your ankles, and with your back straight up.
- Hip Twists
This exercise is vital when it comes to training your flexibility. Start with having your feet slightly wider than your shoulder length to ensure that you perform the hip twists properly. Then, place your arms flat in front of you.
After that, have your knees in a bending position and pace yourself in rotating your body to the side. Hold it for a moment before you repeat this on the opposite side.
- The Semi-Lotus Position

If you expect to have things differently while playing, it is necessary to sustain a lean amount of muscle mass. As a result, this can help you gain an additional boost of energy on the course. Keep in mind, however, that your primary intention is to improve your golf body, and not win some sort of bodybuilding contest. So, don’t over workout.
Yoga & Other Exercises
You can see the similarities of golfing with that of yoga. These two sports require a level of endurance, flexibility, and concentration. In creating a routine for yoga, you can include the following components:
- Breathing techniques

- Warming up

Achieving proper swing won’t take you overnight. It will most likely take you some time – weeks, months, and even years. To ensure progress, practice your new swings over and over and include it to your routine. Remember that when you continuously practice, you will undoubtedly master the skill.
When it comes to the game, chipping is as significant as a proper long-shot swing. This strategy can definitely get you out of a difficult situation.
In preparing for a chip, you will have to first stand on your feet, about a foot apart. Take note that this is relatively shorter than a typical shot.
Place the majority of your weight on your forward foot — opposite the direction of your dominant hand. The back foot should share relatively less weight to ready its movement should a mishap happen.
On the other hand, your hand position should be in front of the ball. Have a short-stroke but maintain the follow-through after, holding your legs and upper body still. Your shoulders and your arms will be carrying the shot throughout the stroke.

- Get your stance down

Is A Perfect Golf Swing Possible?

From a mere spectator, you suddenly want to learn how to play golf. Then it made you think, where and how will you start? You’ve known the game by watching yet not once did you stroke a ball, not even pick a golf club.
Now, there’s a lot of things you need to learn, and at some point, you might feel intimidated. That’s okay because everybody did as beginners.
At first, the goal is to acquire knowledge and to develop the necessary skills and techniques to get you started. While you notice your improvements, your goals change as well. You also realize that there are some things that only experience can teach you.
As veterans often say, all it takes is a study (theoretical knowledge) and practice. If you really want to learn how to play the game, the two will be your shortest route to success. But to help you, even more, take time to ponder on the five key points listed below.
Key Point #1: Master Your Bodily Motions
Many people think that golf is just easy. Because how difficult could it get for just swinging a golf club? However, this statement is both right and wrong.
Indeed, golf is easy in the sense that anyone — irrespective of age, skills, or prior experience, can enjoy and potentially be great at this game. But you don’t just move your hands and aimlessly stroke the ball.
To help you understand how this works, let’s take baseball as an example. As you fix your eyes on the baseball and try to hit it using your bat, I bet you don’t just swing mindlessly.
Before you even swing your bat and strike the ball, you start to formulate strategies. Maybe why not try hitting the ball towards the midfielder or letting the ball just roll? The point is, your motion, your manner of swinging the bat depends on the goal you want to achieve.
This is the same case with golf. Of course, your force matters when swinging, but accuracy is likewise essential. There are various factors you need to consider, including your distance from the hole or target.
Imagine, what will likely happen if you are only a few feet away from your last hole and you ended up with a big swing? Yes, you’ll probably miss your chance of taking home the victory. Balance, sound judgment, and controlled motion — these are what it takes towards achieving success; thus, the things you must learn in the process.
So, to help you as you begin,
there are five basic bodily motions related to five of your body parts often used during the game, namely:
- Legs and knees
- Hips and shoulders
- Hands and wrists
Now, you need to understand that these five body parts should work as a single unit rather than as distinct sections. In the next guidelines, we’ll look at the contribution of each of these parts towards a solid golf play.
Key Point #2: Keep Your Feet Grounded
If you think that your feet only matter because you need to walk on the golf course and stand next to the ball, then listen.
Your feet serve as a starting point for the imaginary line, called the line of flight, between the ball and target. Besides this, your feet are instrumental for an effective golf swing. The effectiveness of your swing also depends on the consistency and power of your footwork.
During the game, your feet will be your sole contact on the ground. Think of it as a foundation that will help you keep your balance. Thus, the stronger the foundation, the better and solid game you will play.
With this, the type of stance you’ll use depends on the purpose of your movement.
From the various types, there are three basic stances you need to learn to keep your feet grounded, namely:
- Square – This basic standard stance, necessary for golf starters to master, places both feet equally distanced from the line of flight. This stance is proven to improve a golfer’s compactness and control.
- Closed – Compared to the Square stance, this stance positions your left foot forward closer to the line of flight. This is the best stance to use if you wish to hook or draw the ball.
- Open – If you want to fade or slice the ball towards the right side of your intended target, instead of positioning your left foot closer to the line of sight, move it far backward.
Regardless of the type of stance, you will be using, remember that your heels should be positioned nearly the same as your shoulder’s width. Also, keeping your weight evenly distributed within your feet will help you maintain your balance.
Now, try this. As you gently move your left foot towards your right, keep your right foot still once you start swinging. Let your left foot do the work, introducing the next essential body motion – knee action.
Key Point #3: Bend Your Knees
Your feet are all about the foundation, keeping you grounded and balanced throughout the game. But it doesn’t stop there. Instead, similar to any ball game, the power, and the movement keeps building up. Let’s have basketball as an example.
Your first movement will involve spreading your legs, then dribbling the ball while trying to find a better view of the basket. Once you lock your eyes on the target, you bend your knees and let the power and force move through your arms and hands. Then you make a shot.
After understanding how everything builds up from your feet, let’s go back to golf. As your feet are positioned apart, slightly bend your knees. While you move your left foot towards your braced right leg, naturally, your knees will move along your foot’s action.
Notice that your knees’ motion was coined as a natural movement, to the point that too much thought isn’t even needed. This reflects one of the benefits of knee action in golf. In fact, the “2-in-1” motion is how others perceive the whole foot and knee motion situation.
But a word of caution, though. Remember that throughout your whole swing you should maintain your knees flexed but with your right leg braced. Your knees help store the power, and it’s your left foot that is responsible for all the twisting and rolling.
Whereas, your right leg, similar to the fulcrum of a seesaw, must firmly remain reliable and steady. Bracing your right leg will help you keep the balance. It also helps you have a powerful swing.
As an additional reminder, one way to know if you are doing things correctly is by looking at your leg’s position. On your takeaway, your legs should form “K”. If you’re successful in doing so, as you made your swing, then that means you’re able to sync your footwork and leg/knee movements properly.
Key Point #4: Twist and Turn Your Hips and Shoulders
The motion of the two out of five usual body parts used in golf was already explained. Again, your foot is your foundation while as power builds up, it is stored in your knees. What follows are your hips and shoulders.
What do you think are these exactly for? Of course! No doubt your hips and shoulders’ role is to use all those stored up power.
For an easier understanding of how it works, consider yourself as a human spring. All the previous bodily motions – in the golf game’s case, your feet and knees – prepared you for that perfect position before launching. Like a spring, you are now ready to pull back and do that swing.
The key to perfecting your next bodily motion is to use gravity and your swing’s force as momentum. Allow your hips and shoulders to feel and to follow the movement as you are stroking the ball. Yet, the main point of this guideline is not all about stroking the ball.
In fact, greater importance is placed on the action of your hips and shoulders. Only minimal movement for your hips is required. Just turn your hips a little bit.
Do you know how you build up power as you stretch the rubber band before the release? That’s similar to what your hips do when you do that little turn. So as you make your shoulders turn as comfortably as you can against your right hip, you’re giving more power in your backswing.
Probably at this time, you are questioning your flexibility, thinking if you can master this motion. Some may find trouble twisting and turning their hips and shoulders.
However, there’s no need to be alarmed. It’s just a matter of time and practice, and maybe a lot of stretches and exercise, for you to achieve it. Don’t worry because as you get stronger, your swing would be able to cover more distance.
Key Point #5: Practice Your Ball Stroke
